A day on Lake Como – August 2017

This is probably up there with one of my favourite holiday days ever! The place we were staying at had a small rowing boat which we could take out onto the lake, so that’s exactly what we did. We were out there for about 4 hours. The scenery was just beautiful and the water was so awesome the way it glittered in the sun light. We rowed around the lake and it was harder work than it looked! We then stopped at a cafe on the beach for a snack and went swimming.

It was such a good day and I thoroughly enjoyed it! See the photos below 🙂

The Black Forest – August 2017

Welcome to the second Switzerland post….I hope you’re not bored yet! 😛

A few days ago we drove to the Black Forest in Germany – it took around an hour to get there as it was only just over the border. As you may be aware, the Black Forest is a huge place, so we went specifically to Todtmoos and then to Blasien.

The drive itself was pretty awesome. Once we’d got across the border and out of the roads all you could see were green fields for miles around. We stopped a few times along the windy road to take photographs and gaze at the beautiful scenery. We first went to a little village called Todtmoos. I was so impressed by how Swiss (or German!) it looked. Everything looked like something out of a TV set! From the wooden signs to the background of trees it was breath taking. The trees actually reminded me of the intro to one of the Twilight movies where they pan over the trees. We found a church which had very unusual decor and then stopped for cake/drinks at a local cafe.

Our second (and last) stop was Blasien. We didn’t explore this town as much as we mainly went there to see the Domo (cathedral). The Domo was completely white inside – which was not what I was expecting when I walked through the door! It was a great day and I was thoroughly wiped out by the time we got back!

Enjoy the photos as always!

Malvern – summer getaway

Hello! It’s been a while since I wrote anything on here but I’m back with a travelling/holiday post! Its the summer holidays here and every year my mum, brother and I go away for a few days in July (my dad has to work so doesn’t come). Last year we went camping in Cheddar Gorge and this year we went to Malvern, which is near Worchester. I realised recently that considering I live in England, I have probably only seen 10% of it, which is why I really enjoy these little trips that we do each year.

We arrived at our hotel on Sunday evening and went more or less straight to bed. The next day we walked up into the Malvern Hills. Walking is not really something I actively choose to do but this was awesome and the views were beautiful! We walked about 7 miles which took around 3 and a half hours.

We spent the rest of the time exploring the tiny town and enjoying the luxury of having a pool and gym at the hotel. The ground of the hotel itself were beautiful and perfect for an afternoon of sunbathing. We went into the priory gardens in the town and the Priory itself. It felt very typically British to be standing next to a band stand eating an ice cream!

On the way home we went to Worchester and popped into a medical museum that was in the university. It was actually a lot more interesting than we thought it was going to be! We then went into the town center and went to the cathedral. My brother and I were somewhat dragged to the evensong by my mum, who wanted to go as it was being broadcast on BBC radio. The singing was actually fairly good! We also happened to bump into a friend and briefly chatted to him.

It was a good few days away – although tiring! Definitely reccommend it, especially if you love walking holidays!IMG_5309IMG_5317IMG_5322IMG_5327IMG_5345IMG_5382IMG_5384IMG_5399IMG_5418IMG_5425IMG_5429IMG_5445IMG_5455IMG_5474

New to my wardrobe

It feels like way to long since I’ve done a fashion post! They’re a little tricker to plan because you have to take photos so I like to do it when I have enough time to do it properly! I thought I would show you some of the things I’ve bought over the last couple of weeks – links to each item will be at the bottom – enjoy!

Bardot top

IMG_3668

This is my first Bardot top! I expected it to be really uncomfortable but it’s actually not too bad. I love styling this with black jeans, a denim jacket and some little black boots. It’s great for a casual evening or daytime look.

Checkered skater dress

IMG_3670

I absolutely love skater dresses – they look great and can be dress up or down – so when I say this one I was hooked. It kind of reminds me of an outfit out of a fairy tale. I can’t wait to wear this when it gets a bit warmer with some white converses. H&M also have loads of other dresses in the same style so I’m definitely going to go grab some more!

Black denim dress

IMG_3671

This was a bit of a push from my usual style but I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised by how it looked! It is bodycon so it very flattering around the waist. I have to say, the picture does not do it justice! I wore this with a checked shirt for a friends birthday dinner a few weeks ago and felt comfortable in it all evening.

Bag

IMG_3672

This was a little treat to myself after the first week back at college after the holidays. I’ve been needing a small evening bag for ages and was so pleased when I came across this one in Accessorize. It’s the perfect size for evenings (or even day trips!) and just fits my phone and purse in.

Shoes

IMG_3669

These are a little daring and I have no idea when I’m going to end up wearing them! But I thought they were so pretty and I love the embroidery on the heels. The price for these was also amazing at (I think!) ÂŁ16. They were from Primark so I cant give a link for them!

Everything, everything – Book review

I thought it was time for another book review! I loved writing the last one and it seems that you guys loved reading it! In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m a bit of a book worm, so these are one of my favourite kinds of posts to do. I recently read Everything, everything by Nicola Yoon – I fell in love with the characters and just the entire plot in general and decided it was worthy of a blog post, so here we go!

Overview: My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

The first thing which really appealed to me was the medical/psychological aspect that was evident from the blurb. I’m fascinated by rare diseases so this was a definite plus. I related strongly to the main character (Madeline) through this as I too have a rare medical condition (nothing too weird, just a sleep disorder!) I really related to some of her thoughts and feelings because of this. Towards the end of the book the Psychological aspect comes into view – I can’t say too much about this without any spoilers!

Another thing I loved was the romance aspect. This is, quite obviously, a romance novel and I am such a sucker for romance books. Some of the quotes about Olly really made me melt – see below.

“He’s definitely a noticer, the kind of boy who would know if you’d rearranged a painting or added a new vase to a room.”

The storyline is really beautiful and sends a good message. I’m going to put a few of my favourite quotes/extracts from the book down below. Another thing I liked was how easy it was to read – it was well-written and exciting all the way through. If you love anything to do with romance or maybe have a bit of a fascination for all things weird and wonderful, I strongly suggest reading this book!

“You can find the meaning of life in a book.”

“If my life were a book and you read it backward, nothing would change. Today is the same as yesterday. Tomorrow will be the same as today.”

“There’s more to life than being alive”

I hope you enjoyed this and will add it to your to read list! If you’ve already read it, feel free to leave a comment below so I can hear your opinion! Megssaskia x

The Liebster Blogger Award

Liebster Award Sign

I’m so happy to tell you that I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Blogger Award – an award for new blogs which have less than 200 followers. Thank you so much to Hannah who nominated me. Go check out her blog – https://wordsmithobservations.wordpress.com/ – you won’t regret it. 🙂 This is the first blogger award I’ve ever recieved, so it’s pretty awesome to be honest. Plus, I get to discover and nominate 11 other bloggers. Here are the rules:

Liebster Award List

These are the questions that I was given (and my answers):

  1. What made you pursue writing? I have always been keen on writing down thoughts/feeling in a diary. Blogging allows me to do this whilst exploring other people’s thoughts and sharing my own.
  2. What is the most important event/events that have grown you into the person you are today? Flying to Australia on my own was an amazing experience. I learnt how to be independent and cope when things don’t go the way they’re planned.
  3. Describe yourself in one sentence. Always looking for new adventures/exciting things to do.
  4. If you could meet with anyone past or present who would it be and why? Probably Florence Nightingale. She’s such a role model for standing out from the crowd and not following what everyone else is doing. She also had a big impact on the way we approach medicine today.
  5. What are 5 principles that you try to live your life by? Do the right thing, even if it means standing on your own. Have no regrets. Be yourself – don’t be afraid to stand out from the crowd and be nice to everyone you meet.
  6. If you could pack up and live anywhere in the world for a year, where would you live and why? Definitely Australia. The accents, the food, the beaches, the cities and of course the amazingly hot weather – what is there not to like?!
  7. Who are your favourite authors? Why do you like their work so much?  J.K Rowling definitely! I love the Harry Potter books. They’re my comfort books; whenever I’m nervous/feeling down they cheer me up.
  8.  If you could be anything in the world, what would you be? I would absolutely love to be a singer, it’s always been my dream job.
  9. What do you love to do in your free time? I usually hang out with friends or if I have time to myself I like to sing, read a book, or catch up on a new episode of a TV series on Netflix!
  10. What would you say is your biggest downfall? I often find it difficult to make good friends in new situations and I wish I could be more outgoing.
  11. What would you say is your best attribute? I am very ambitious; I know what my goals are and I work hard to achieve them.

11 random facts about me:

  1. I was homeschooled for 3 years.
  2. I want to travel the world and explore different cultures before I settle down.
  3. I hope to be a Psychologist or a Lawyer.
  4. I’m 5’2
  5. My favourite quote is “Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.”
  6. I love fashion/clothes
  7. My zodiac sign is a Scorpio (I was born on Halloween)
  8. I love interior design – walking through shops such as John Lewis and Ikea, or anywhere that has a homeware section is so much fun – I can’t wait to decorate my own home.
  9. My favourite colours are red and blue.
  10. I play cricket for the county team.
  11. I study Psychology, English Language and Law.

  2. queenkerswell.wordpress.com – This was one of the first blog I came across when I first started. Some of her posts are so relatable and real. 5. femvestige.wordpress.com – I came across this blog the other day and was really touched by some of the things which have been written. I especially like the one entitled ‘Unclean’
  6. etchedinadventure.com – I’m so in love with travel blogs, however much they make me sick with wanderlust! If you’re a travel lover, then definitely check out this blog!
  7. cloeverjoyful.wordpress.com – thanks to all these amazing blogs (this being one of them!), I’m getting very into reading poems. As a relatively new blog, it is very exciting to read and the writing is great – this is a very creative blog. I also love the travel post! 🙂
  8. element37.wordpress.com – I chose this blog because it really gives an insight into Rachel’s life. It has made me chuckle (especially the wedding post!) and think about abstract things. Also, her puppy is so adorable and her dog posts are very relatable!
  9. wordsfromabrokeartist.wordpress.com – I was excited about finding this blog as the tagline has psychology in it! I love anything psychology/mind/people related and her posts really seem to put into words things which I often think about but don’t know how to say. My favourite post is probably ‘That time I lost my friends and grew up as a result’ because it gives you perspective.
  10. lightsoulssite.wordpress.com – I enjoy how original this blog is. After reading the About page I was intrigued. Often the best blog posts are random thoughts or idea’s and I think this blog does that perfectly. The posts are short, which I like as it makes it easier to read all of them!
  11. ouridentityblog.wordpress.com – reading the posts from this blog makes me feel very happy. The posts are cheery and I really enjoy the friendly vibe that is projected through the writing. The first post made me chuckle as I found that whole forgetting passwords thing very relatable!

Final step is to ask you guys 11 questions, so here goes:

  2. What are your goals in life?

Christmas Party Outfit

I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought the best way to kick off the festive season is to do a Christmas-themed post! This is actually inspired by a gorgeous dress I found recently in a charity shop and thought would be a great outfit for a Christmas party in a few weeks. Thanks to my grandma – who dragged me into the charity shop for the millionth time, and bought me the dress. 🙂

The dress is red lace with a satin underskirt. It has a fairly high neckline and finishes just above the knee, which is great if you aren’t keen on showing too much skin. The sleeves a 3 quarter length and do not have any material under the lace, which gives it a really pretty effect. I love how elegant lace is and this is (surprisingly) the first lace dress I have ever owned – actually now I come to think of it, I don’t own much lace clothing apart from a few skirts. Definitely need to keep my eye out for lace tops! I paired the dress with a pair of chunky black heels, which could be traded for delicate silver sandals depending on how posh the occasion is. These are so comfy and I bought them from Topshop a few years ago.

As usual I have inserted a few pictures of the dress and shoes below. I hope this gave you a bit of inspiration for your outfit if you didn’t already have some 🙂
